This course assumes that students will already have gained some knowledge of basic Māori words. A variety of approaches-speaking, listening, seeing, moving, touching, reading and writing will be used, recognising the diversity of learning styles the students bring to the classroom as well as a variety of audio visual aids – flashcards, pictures, charts, overhead transparencies. Videos, Tapes, textbooks – will be used to maximize language acquisition. Pair work and group work are encouraged so that students will have greater amounts of ‘talking time’. Students will also be given self-directed activities to reinforce and/or extend all the language points covered.
